Saxon document server

Current statusQucosa - Saxon Document and Publication Server

Description In order to bundle development capacity, achieve rational regular operation and bring together as much relevant, multimedia content as possible, the local solutions previously available at Saxony's university libraries were replaced by a high-performance, state-wide publication server based on a standard technical solution. In addition to a customer-friendly software, the main development goals were the integration of small libraries as users or providers as well as an appropriate market penetration, also beyond the borders of the universities and Saxony. The Saxon Document Server thus makes a noteworthy contribution to the international Open Access initiative, which is driven by the desire to make scientific literature and materials freely accessible on the Internet in principle, i.e. free of charge and without licence restrictions. In addition to its depository function for scientific publications in the strict sense, the system is also intended to serve for the long-term provision of publications from business and administration (annual reports, strategy papers, etc.) and thus fulfil an important hinge function between science and business. In future development, the aim is to collect as many non-university publications as possible on this platform, if necessary with access protection or commercial billing, and to attract further users.
