Voluntary social year
Your FSJ Culture at the SLUB

The SLUB offers one position each for a Voluntary Social Year in Culture in the three areas Makerspace, Music Department and in Press and Public Relations.
We are looking forward to committed and curious people who want to gain exciting insights into the "think tank" library and gain experience in the world of academic libraries.
You can get more information about the framework conditions of the FSJ, your assignment possibilities and the possibility to apply at the Landesvereinigung Kulturelle Jugendbildung Sachsen (LKJ).
We are looking forward to unusual perspectives, your ideas and your view of our library! We look forward to receiving your application!
SLUB Makerspace
Have you already "made" something today? The Saxon State Library - Dresden State and University Library (SLUB) is the first academic library in Germany to open such a Makerspace. But what is a makerspace anyway? First and foremost, it is an open creative space for people who want to realise their ideas and Do-It-Yourself projects. Whether it's with a 3D printer, laser cutter or a robot arm: we are there to help everyone! Creating, learning and sharing knowledge - that's how we live the library of tomorrow.
During your FSJ in the Makerspace, you will learn how to use our equipment so that you too can actively support the makers. You will also gain insights into the research and teaching activities of our cooperation partners, such as the Fraunhofer IWU or the Chair of Technical Design at the TU Dresden. For us, making also means meeting. Organise and supervise our Makerspace events with us and get inspired for your very own Makerspace project.

Music Department
Original parts of Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor, the estate of the famous Silbermann organ-building dynasty, handwritten letters by Clara Schumann or historical sound recordings of Richard Strauss' operas - all this and much more can be found in the music department of the SLUB Dresden.
Preserving, maintaining and communicating Saxony's cultural heritage is the focus of our work, but modern audiovisual media are not neglected here either. A central concern is to bring these treasures into the digital realm so that they can be used by enthusiasts and scholars worldwide. In addition, we regularly offer events in various formats (exhibitions, concerts, lectures, discussions) in which our collections can be experienced by a broad public.
An exciting range of tasks awaits you during your FSJ: from planning and organising events to working with our originals and maintaining data in various systems. You will have the opportunity to expand your computer skills (databases, web applications), to learn from our experienced staff how to handle valuable cultural assets and to network broadly. An exchange among FSJs at the SLUB is encouraged and offers the opportunity and motivation to work together with like-minded people and to take a look at other areas of responsibility.

Public relations
During the FSJ you will become part of the Press and Public Relations team at the SLUB. From Insta-Stories to YouTube clips, from concerts to panel discussions, from posters to websites - we shape the image and event programme of the SLUB and bring the library's services and offers to the public. With around 100 events a year, we are also increasingly establishing ourselves as a permanent fixture in Dresden's cultural life, blogging and being active in the social networks.
With us, you can develop ideas for online communication and new, innovative events. We support you in developing, planning and implementing your own project. Are image editing and video editing your thing? You can try it out with us!
You'll also help us create press reviews, assist in updating the homepage and distributing promotional and informational materials, maintain online event calendars and assist with on-site event support.
Curious? We look forward to receiving your application!
