Articles from electronic journals published by Elsevier

At the end of 2018, the contract between the acquisition consortium of Saxon university libraries and the publisher Elsevier for the purchase of journals expired. In consultation with the rectorate of the TU Dresden, the SLUB, like numerous other institutions in Germany, decided not to renew the Elsevier licences for reasons of science policy. We informed about the particular difficulties with the major publisher Elsevier in this letter. The supply of our users with articles from Elsevier journals is still guaranteed.

The SLUB holds the archiving rights for some Elsevier journals until 31 December 2015 and they are still accessible via ScienceDirect.

In addition, the Elsevier Open Archive is available, in which articles are available according to the moving wall principle.

Newer literature from Elsevier journals can be obtained free of charge via our interlibrary loan portal. The delivery time for interlibrary loan orders is generally one to two weeks. We can provide Elsevier articles from e-only journals much faster. For orders that can be served from print journals and are more than 20 pages in length, you will be charged. Details on the interlibrary loan procedure can be found on our interlibrary loan website.

Scientific employees of the TU Dresden with a valid CampusCard who need articles from Elsevier journals at short notice, please send an e-mail to: E-Lieferservice@slub-dresden.de

Provision of printed magazines and newspapers

In the area of journals and newspapers in the SLUB Central Library you will find an ideal environment for studying with numerous quiet workstations. A large part of our printed journal collection is directly accessible to you on site:

  • current periodicals on display as well as a list of back issues
  • regional and national daily and weekly newspapers on display (issues of the current month and the two preceding months)
  • Newspapers on microfilm and corresponding readers (media cabinet)

Copies that are not in free access can be ordered from the stacks via the SLUB catalogue. The ordered copies will be made available in the self-collection area on level 0. Journals and newspapers cannot be borrowed. However, scanners are available for copying articles free of charge.

You will find more printed journals and newspapers in the decentralised locations.

Archive of Saxon daily and weekly newspapers

The SLUB holdings include an extensive archive of Saxon daily and weekly newspapers on microfilm. You can take these out yourself from the microfilm media cabinet on level -1 of the Central Library and use them on the reading machines. If you would like to take individual articles with you, this is possible in the form of back enlargements, for example as a PDF on a USB stick, via our in-house scanning service.
