Services, Media and Information

Register with us!

If you want to use online resources, borrow books from the SLUB or other libraries or use the SLUB makerspace, you'll need a library card, which can be issued at all SLUB library locations. All persons who are at least 14 years old can register at the SLUB Dresden.

First, please send us your personal information by using our registration form.

Upon verification of your information, you will be provided with a 6-digit registration ID. Please make a note of this number or print the page.

Please note: The registration ID number is important for verification of your registration information. If you forget this ID number, you will not be able to change the information you've submitted, nor to repeat the registration process, as the system will have already recorded the combination of your name and birth date.

Using your registration ID number and the password you have created, you are able to update or change your data at any time.

After filling out the online registration form, please visit one of the SLUB locations to complete the registration process in person. You must provide your registration ID and show your identification card or passport (as well as, if relevant, your student ID card) to receive a library user card.

For identification, please bring your ID card or a passport and an official certificate of residency. Non-EU citizens still need a registration certificate or, alternatively, a signed affidavit. If you are a student of the TU Dresden, please, also provide a certificate of matriculation.

People under the age of 16 need to present written consent from a parent or guardian, an ID card or passport.

User Account: Managing Your Personal Details

You can request and renew media online, or reserve checked-out items, if you log in to your user account. Upon receipt of your library card, please change your personal user account password and create a PIN.

What To Do If Your Account Has Been Suspended

User accounts may be suspended (deactivated) for various reasons. Account suspension can be carried out automatically or manually by our personnel. Self-service functions (i.e. at checkout and return machines) are immediately disabled upon deactivation of a user account.

You can block your account yourself, for example, if you have lost your SLUBCARD.

Possible Reasons for a Deactivated Account:

  • Unpaid fines of 30.00 € or more as well as accrued fees which remain unpaid for more than three months,
  • Infringement of the SLUB Library Regulations,
  • When media have not been returned in due time, for example, when the loan period has been exceeded by more than 12 weeks,
  • An expired SLUBCARD.

Despite the blockage, users are still able to access their user account online. However, only after the reason for the deactivation has been clarified at the circulation desk can the user utilize the self-service functions again.

What to Do if the Library Card Is Lost

Please suspend (deactivate) your account immediately, in order to prevent any form of misuse, and contact the SLUB circulation desk. A new library card costs € 5.00.
