The loan period for books, audio and video media is usually 28 calendar days.
Ordering and Borrowing
Most library media can be borrowed for at-home use. Media within the open access areas can be directly taken from the shelves. All books with a yellow shelf number label may be borrowed. Media from the closed stack areas can be requested directly from the SLUB catalog. Requested items will be provided after a short time in the self pick-up area or at the service counter. You will be informed in the SLUB account as soon as they are ready for you.
Books with a red call number label or red dot above the call number label are non-borrowable and may only be used within the library building. Other non-borrowable media which can only be used within the library are:
- Unbound works, newspapers and journals,
- Collections of loose sheets,
- Microforms,
- Books in course reserved reading shelves.
Certain media might also be excluded from lending due to their size, weight or their conservation status.
Please order items from our stacks directly via the SLUB catalogue and then collect them from the self-collection area or the service desk.
At all locations, you can borrow media from the lending machines during opening hours or have them booked at the service desk.
Special loan periods for employees of the TU Dresden
Employees of the Dresden University of Technology can take advantage of an extended loan period of 90 days for book media. If you would also like to make use of this special loan period for renewals, please contact us personally (in your SLUB account you only extend the loan period by 28 days). As soon as a medium with a special loan period is reserved, it can be recalled by the SLUB at the end of the regular loan period.
Reserving Checked-out Media
In case you would like to borrow media that are currently on loan, you can reserve them in SLUB catalog. Free delivery of the medium to one of our libraries is part of our service. As soon as your desired medium is ready for you, you will be notified by e-mail. You can then pick up your medium within the next five opening days. If you no longer need the item by then or are not able to pick it up within five days, please let us know.
Acquisition Requests (Purchase Tip)
We encourage you to place an acquisition request (PurchaseTip) if a desired title is not available at the SLUB Dresden, for example, if an interlibrary loan is not possible, or if the title is permanently out on loan.
