Library Tharandt / Forestry
The library of the Department of Forest Sciences is located in the centre of the Tharandt campus in the Rossmässler Building. More than 150,000 subject-specific media are available here.

For organizational reasons we have to adjust our opening hours from 02.02.2026: Mon, Thu: 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. / Tue, Wed: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. /
Fri: 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The valuable old holdings with works from the 16th to the 19th century, which are among the most comprehensive historical collections in the German-speaking world, especially in forestry and hunting, deserve special mention. A special feature is also the collection of final and diploma theses from the Department of Forest Sciences, which has been kept since 1876 and also includes bachelor's and master's theses.

Workplaces and technology
Here you can read and learn in a relaxed atmosphere - surrounded by nature. Use our workstations in the reading room or settle down in comfortable seating areas. For small groups of up to eight people, workstations can be linked to an interactive whiteboard screen, which can be used to work together on presentations, for example.
In the special reading room with six seats you can primarily use the works of our extensive old collection or work together as a group undisturbed. Our electronic research and information services are available to you at the PC workstations in the open access area and via Wifi. For free copying, you can use the book scanner and the colour inspection scanner as well as a scanning tent on site.
It is also possible to use our premises for small-scale lectures and events by arrangement. Enjoy the natural environment for studying and learning - even in a deck chair on the lawn behind the house!
In the six-seat reading room, you can primarily use the works from our extensive old collection or work together as a group without being disturbed. Our electronic research and information services are available to you at the PC workstations in the open access area and via WLAN. You can use the book and color supervision scanner as well as a scanning tent on site for free copying.
It is also possible to use our premises for small-scale lectures and events by prior arrangement. Enjoy the natural surroundings for studying and learning - even in a deckchair on the lawn behind the building! For your active study break, you are welcome to borrow some sports and leisure equipment (e.g. volleyball, basketball, table tennis set or yoga mat) from the service desk to recover from the stress of studying and recharge your batteries.

Der Zugang zum Gebäude ist stufenlos möglich. Die Tür des Haupteingangs öffnet sich nicht automatisch.
Im Gebäude gibt es:
- einen Aufzug,
- barrierefreie sanitäre Anlagen,
- das Orientierungssystem blindFind für Menschen mit Sehbehinderung,
- einen höhenverstellbaren Ausleihautomat.
Zusätzlich ist in der Fakultät für Forstwissenschaften ein Eltern-Kind-Raum verfügbar.

A place of learning at night: The Bahnwärterhäuschen Tharandt
Are you looking for a quiet place to study - even outside library opening hours? Then the Bahnwärterhäuschen Tharandt is just the thing: an additional study room for TU students, not far from the library.
Use: Monday to Thursday - around the clock
The Bahnwärterhäuschen can be used at any time from Monday to Thursday. It is closed from Friday to Sunday.
Key hire - how it works
- You can obtain the key from our counter during the library's opening hours.
- The maximum loan period is 2 days.
- Two keys can be lent to different people at the same time. You are responsible for coordinating their use.
Study space for groups
The Bahnwärterhäuschen offers space for several people - ideal for group work, project meetings or learning together in a quiet atmosphere.

The library is only responsible for issuing keys. The entire organization, administration and support of the Bahnwärterhäuschen is the responsibility of the Technical University.
