Computer Workstations (Internet)

Where are the computer workstations located?

PCs for registering new users and for carrying out preliminary research in our catalogues and on the internet are already available in the foyer of the Central Library.  PCs are also available for individual research on all levels of the Central Library and at all SLUB locations.

What options are available on our PCs?

At all SLUB locations, our PCs are configured in the same way. They are based on the Linux Mint operating system. Firefox and Google Chrome are installed as browsers. It is possible to switch the language of the system and the application programmes from German to English. This is done via the language selection option on the login screen. Zotero is also pre-installed.

SLUB services, such as our web pages, our catalogues, the overview of our subject databases, electronic journals and pages from other providers, are accessible after authentication (SLUB login).

You can save your research results by e-mailing them to yourself or downloading them to a USB stick.

You can also use the FTP programme to upload and download files using the Linux file manager.

We offer LibreOffice for text editing, spreadsheets and creating presentations on most of the PC workstations.

Audio playback via headphones is also possible on our PCs. You can bring your own headphones or borrow them for a day from one of our service points.

Please note: after 10 minutes of inactivity, the user will receive a warning before being automatically logged out and all files from that session (including any downloads, forms, internet history and passwords) will be erased.

You can use your own laptop with the SLUB WiFi!

You can access the WiFi network at all SLUB locations. All you need is a valid SLUBCard or an Eduroam login. Detailed information and configuration instructions for all operating systems can be found here.

Laptop locks can be borrowed from the service desks (Central Library, DrePunct Library).

It is not possible to use the LAN sockets with your private device.
