Participatory actions

Open Access Escape Room

5 p.m. | 6 p.m. | 7 p.m. | 8 p.m. - Meeting point: main foyer.

It is the year 2118 and by now all research is published at no cost to readers or authors. This is called Diamond Open Access. In 2023 it was different and publishing research results could be ... well, expensive or time-consuming. But now a rogue has blocked all research results here at SLUB again. Can you save free science and make the knowledge available for free use again?

The number of participants is limited. Here you can register in advance for this offer:5pm6pm7pmhttps://www.slub-dresden.de/besuchen/veranstaltungen/details/veranstaltung/422068pm

Garden and gardening

17-23 h | Main Entrance Central Library

In cooperation with the Green Office of the TU Dresden, we offer you a colourful potpourri on the topic of gardens and gardening: In our garden lounge, you can browse through our selected literature on "Urban Gardening" while sipping herbal lemonade and also get active yourself. Together we will build an insect nesting aid, for example. On the Smoothie Bike of the TU Dresden you have the opportunity to mix your own smoothie on the bike using your own physical strength. There are various craft activities for children, such as making seed bombs and painting stones. We will also explain how you can garden in the SLUB community garden.

End the evening with film music

22-23 hrs | Klemperer Hall

... or maybe even shake a leg? In the last hour of the Long Night of the Sciences, anything is possible. DJ D'dread on the turntables.

Card printing with stamps from the laser cutter

5pm-2pm | DrePunct library area (Zellescher Weg 17).

We'll take rollers and paint into our hands and use various stamps to make fun cards to give away or as souvenirs. There is also something to learn in an explanatory video: How are stamps made in the laser cutter and how do you build a stamping device for printing?

Sew your own book cover

17-23 h | Makerspace M1 (Zellescher Weg 17)

You always have a book in your pocket and want to protect it? Together we will sew and design your personal book cover for your favourite book from new and old fabrics. Along the way, get to know our sewing machines and how to use them in the SLUB Makerspace.

Experience Escape Rooms and Culture Virtually

17-23 h | Exhibition area DrePunct and M1 (Zellescher Weg 17).

Here you can escape from immersive 360° escape rooms and experience the SLUB's Corty Gallery in a new dimension through VR glasses. We will also answer your questions about the creation of these virtual worlds. In cooperation with Lorenza Wand and Anna Sophie Risto of the Economics-Technology-Household/Social Sciences Department at TU Dresden and Ruben Rejzek, mechanical engineering student at TU Dresden.

Creativity and 3D printing

17-23 h | Foyer DrePunct (Zellescher Weg 17)

We scan three-dimensional objects, creatively modify them in the CAD programme (CAD = computer aided design) and observe how 3D objects are created in the 3D printer. Discover with us what 3D scanners and printers can do. In cooperation with the Chair of Visualisation at the TU Dresden.

Plastics at your fingertips - become a materials expert

17-23 h | Exhibition area Makerspace (Zellescher Weg 17)

Which plastics do we use for 3D plastic printing in the SLUB Makerspace? Learn more about the properties of plastics and how they are used in industry and research in a playful way with the SLUB's specialist information service (FID) Materials Science and the SLUB Makerspace. Solve simple material puzzles and become a material expert yourself in front of our green screen!

3D Printing Meditation

17-23 h | Makerspace M2 (Zellescher Weg 17)

The 3D printers sing and chirp, vibrate and oscillate in the background, the lights are dimmed. The space invites you in: Relax on the seating, be sprinkled with information about 3D printing and 3D design or watch the 3D printers live at work. Today, our event room becomes a 3D printing lounge - you are very welcome.
