Katrin Stump

Short vita

Katrin Stump, born in Sonneberg (Thuringia) in 1972 and raised in Riesa, brings with her extensive library and management experience. She studied Classical Archaeology and Ancient History at the Universities of Bamberg and Jena and, after working as a researcher at the German Archaeological Institute in Rome, completed her library internship at the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel and the Bavarian State Library in Munich.

From 2006 to 2009, she was head of the Faculty Library of Theology at the University of Graz, where she managed the construction of a new library and the consolidation of numerous departmental libraries. Her path then led Katrin Stump back to her Saxon homeland: from 2009 to 2014, she was the Head Director of the University Library of the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg. Under her leadership, the library underwent a renewal process that was rewarded several times with top positions in a nationwide library ranking.

Since 2014, she has been the director of the University Library of the Technical University of Braunschweig, which she has made fit for the future through comprehensive reorganisation and numerous third-party funded projects. One of the projects that has attracted national attention is the library's specialised information service for pharmacy, in which the library cooperates intensively with research-based informatics and develops and operates new services for university pharmaceutical research using technologies such as machine learning and text and data mining. Katrin Stump also contributes her expertise to renowned expert committees. For six years, she served on the German Research Foundation's Committee for Scientific Libraries and Information Systems, most recently as its chair.

Since 2018, she has also been a member of the Council for Information Infrastructures, an expert body that advises policymakers and academics on strategic questions concerning the future of digital science.
