The Saxon Family Book - Mscr.Dresd.R.3

The so-called "Sächsisches Stammbuch" is a genealogical collection of 334 portraits of Saxon rulers and their relatives from the time of Alexander the Great to the middle of the 16th century with coats of arms and rhymed verses. The base of the manuscript was made around 1497/1498. Additions were made in 1532 and 1546. The pictures of the second addition show the influence of the court painter Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553).
