Family record book of Schachmann - Mscr.Dresd.App.2505

Bartholomäus Schachmann (1559-1614) was mayor of his native city of Danzig from 1605 until his death. Before he accepted a position as a lawyer there in 1592, he studied in Krakow, Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Erfurt and Orléons and travelled through Europe and the Ottoman Empire between 1588 and 1589. The entries and numerous illustrations from Padua, Venice, Basel, Malta, Naples or Cracow from the years 1580, 1582 and 1586 to 1589 bear witness to this period.
