Description

The digital long-term archive of the SLUB (SLUBArchiv) guarantees the permanent preservation and the reliable and permanent availability of the digital holdings of the SLUB and of more than thirty other Saxon institutions, which are created, for example, within the framework of the State Digitisation Programme for Science and Culture of the Free State of Saxony. It also secures a significant part of the audiovisual heritage of the Free State of Saxony, which is threatened by decay.

The SLUBArchive currently contains more than 19.3 million files with a simple data volume of 315 terabytes. In 2018 and 2019 alone, more than 180 terabytes of digitised data were newly ingested, which were created according to the format and digitisation specifications of the SLUB archive.

The aim of the project is to maintain, expand and improve the services of the SLUB archive. Investments are planned in the following areas:

  • Functional expansion of the open source solution "Archivematica" for productive use in the SLUB.
  • Renewal and improvement of the equipment with sustainable hardware in the permanent storage
  • Equipment for the indexing, evaluation and securing of the permanent usability of digital materials from predecessors and bequests
  • Securing and improving the availability of the SLUB archive through the redundant connection of the processing infrastructure to the permanent storage.

All Saxon university libraries that already use or want to use the digital long-term archive of the SLUB will benefit from these investments.
