Fürstenschule Grimma

In 1962, the music department of the former Saxon State Library purchased the collection from the Fürstenschule Grimma. The music manuscripts contain Protestant church music from the late 17th to early 19th centuries, including more than 100 cantatas by Telemann and the famous »Jacobi collection«, which belonged to the former school cantor Samuel Jacobi (1652 – 1721). The music was used in school instruction, for school ceremonies, and in church services in the city of Grimma. This important treasury of music is not only representative of musical production in Saxony at that time, but reflects the tradition of cultivating musical culture that characterized the Saxon court and the trade fair city of Leipzig.
