Karl August Böttiger (1760-1835)

Philologist, pedagogue, editor and writer, born on 8 June 1760 in Reichenbach in the Vogtland, died on 17 November 1835 in Dresden.

Karl August Böttiger was one of the most influential and well-connected personalities of the German literary scene of his time. He worked in Weimar from 1791 to 1804, then in Dresden until his death.

The estate, comprising 297 volumes and capsules, came into the Royal Library in 1854. It contains above all several tens of thousands of letters to and from Böttiger and is thus one of the most comprehensive collections on Weimar Classicism.
