Photographer, born on 1 February 1942 in Dresden, died in an accident on 15 July 2000 in Berlin.

Christian Borchert is considered one of the most important German photographers of the late 20th century. The main focus of his work was portrait, social and urban documentation.

At the end of 2000, the SLUB Dresden was able to acquire his photographic and written estate with funds from the Free State of Saxony and the ZEIT Foundation Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius. The Deutsche Fotothek took over approx. 230,000 negatives, 18,000 working prints and around 2,300 35mm slides. The manuscript collection preserves the written legacy, which comprises 3055 numbers in more than 68 capsules.
