Our Collections

The SLUB’s three special collection departments – Manuscripts, rare prints and regional studies, the Music Department and the Deutsche Fotothek – preserve and index the entire media variety of the library’s 450 years enduring collecting activities. Traditionally, the SLUB acquired and still acquires media dealing with Saxony: manuscripts, prints, maps and prospects, sheet music, photographs, and audiovisual media – in short, pretty much everything published in and about the Free State of Saxony. On behalf of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Specialized Information Service for Art subserves the main areas Contemporary Art, Photography, Industrial Design and Commercial Art, and thereby forms the continuation of the former special collections department of the same name.Beyond the collection and preservation of cultural artifacts, we, in close collaboration with science, daily engage in indexing our sources and providing gained data for current and future research questions.
