FoodStudio

The FoodStudio of the SLUB Dresden is the venue for the German Archive of Culinary Arts and invites you to talks about gastrosophy, which revolve around food culture through the ages. Here, you can expect to find a variety of historical printed materials related to cooking, food, and enjoyment, as well as readings, workshops, and cooking events. Perhaps you would also like to help us collect our inventory?

With the German Culinary Archive, the SLUB has one of the largest collections of culinary delights in the German-speaking world. A total of about 30,000 works on culinary art and food culture as well as about 22,000 menus invite you to read, research and, of course, cook. Because rummaging through old treasures about food and the pleasures of the table always whets the appetite, we are looking for the opportunity to get hands-on and experiment with historical cooking recipes in the teaching kitchen at the TU Dresden.

Cultural history of food - participate and taste

In the FoodStudio, cookbooks from different eras are lined up with magazines, menu cards, wine labels and photographs. As diverse as the media are, so are the scientific ways of dealing with the subject.

The FoodStudio offers you, among other things, culinary readings, lectures and events where you can cook from old cookery books. Are you pursuing your own project on the topic? Then you will find exchange in the right space here!

If you are interested in culinary arts and gastrosophy and would like to help shape the FoodStudio yourself, then we cordially invite you to open up the stocks alongside our subject experts.

Commitment welcome! Are you interested in culinary arts and would like to get involved in shaping the FoodStudio? We welcome your voluntary commitment to inventorying and cataloguing the holdings. You are also welcome to complete a research internship in the FoodStudio or write a subject-related qualification thesis - we will be happy to supervise you in this!
