Active Learning Break with Paws
Sometimes your head is simply full - it helps to switch off for a moment and recharge your batteries. Our “Active Learning Break with Paws” offers you just that: a relaxing break with the visiting dog teams from the ASB-Regionalverband Dresden e.V.
Neue Termine werden am 17.06.2025 um 12 Uhr auf dieser Seite veröffentlicht.
Time for a break - with animal support!
Whether petting, playing, walking or simply observing - our four-legged guests help you to forget the stresses of everyday life for a moment and clear your head. You can treat yourself to a short break from everyday learning in a peaceful atmosphere.
When and where?

The study breaks always take place during the exam period in the communal garden of the August-Bebel-Straße / TextLab library.
You can choose between the following dates:
Walk: 25 min, 1 participant, 1 dog
Active break: 15 min, 1 participant, 1 dog
Active break: 15 min, 2 participants, 2 dogs
Active break: 25 min, 1-4 participants, 2 dogs
Why with a dog?
Dogs have a proven calming effect, promote well-being and help to reduce stress. Numerous studies have proven the positive effects of animals on humans: The level of the stress hormone cortisol is lowered and rational thought processes are stimulated.
Cooperation with the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Regionalverband Dresden e.V.

The volunteer visiting dog teams are provided by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Regionalverband Dresden e.V. . The teams have undergone extensive training to prepare them for their work. You can find out more about the training of the teams here.
The appointments are planned and carried out together with the trained visiting dog handlers and with regard to the well-being of the visiting dogs. The dog handler remains present during the entire appointment in order to recognize stress signals from the dog or insecurities in the participants and to be able to intervene immediately.
Would you like to give something back?
You will find a small food donation box at the event location starting on 02/06/2025. If you like, you are welcome to donate a little something for our animal guests and the other dogs. Any support helps!
Here is the the donation form of the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund.
"Our visiting dog service is mainly run by volunteers. Without the support of donors, we would not be able to finance equipment, veterinary costs, travel expenses and more. With your donation, you make it possible for us to provide civil society help - here and now! We thank you for that!" - ASB-Regionalverband Dresden e. V.
Animal-assisted activities in libraries
Under the heading TIERB, a network has been formed on the initiative of the SLUB to promote the exchange of knowledge and experience on animal-assisted activities in libraries (TIERB). The network currently comprises around 50 libraries. It meets quarterly (virtually), runs a mailing list (tierb@slub-dresden.de), maintains a corresponding bibliography and runs a blog. Further information can be found here.
