You can renew your borrowed items online in your user account: place a tick in the checkbox next to the item in question and then click on "Renew". Note that the new loan period always starts from the day of the triggered renewal. Reload the page and make sure that the new loan period date appears.
Self-service for lending and return
Reserved and requested media will be made available to you in our Self-Service Areas. In the branch libraries Fiedlerstraße/ Medicine and Tharandt/ Forestry you do receive requested media at the service desks.
With your personal identification number (PIN) only
In order to use the Self-Service Areas, you need your SLUBCard number and your personal four-digit PIN, which can be assigned in your online account. You can read how to do this here and it is explained in our tutorial.
Picking up and borrowing items
Our self-service areas are divided into numbered compartments into which the item available for retrieval have been sorted. You will find the item you've requested in the section labeled with the last two digits of your user ID number or the University ID of your Campuscard. The pick-up shelves for newspapers are located in the Newspapers and Periodicals section on level -1 of the Central Library.
You can check out these items at the self-service checkout machines. Books that cannot be borrowed from outside the building can be identified by the red insert ("Präsenz"). They can be used in the respective building during opening hours.
Items which you do not wish to check can either be left on the shelf or placed on the nearest return cart. They can also be returned to the service desk.
Items that are not available on the self-service shelves can be obtained at the service desks. This includes interlibrary loans, DVDs, CDs and microforms. The pick-up location can be seen in your SLUB-account after the item has been made available.
Returning items
You can use the self-service return machine in the Central Library as well as the Self-Service Checkout Machines at all other SLUB locations during opening hours to return all items which you have previously checked out and no longer need. Please return all books which have been damaged, audio cassettes, videos and discs to the service desk.
Paying fees
You can pay late fees in part or in full at the payment machine in the Central Library using your EC card. To make a payment, you will also need your SLUB card and the 4-digit PIN created for self-service machines. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use the payment machine with the Campuscard.
You also have the option of paying outstanding fees via a bank transfer or in cash at the service desks.
