Accessibility Information

Here you will find an overview of all important information regarding accessibility: services, building features, contact persons, and technical aids.

Accessibility in the Central Library

Access to the Central Library is step-free. There are three accessible parking spaces in front of the barrier in the SLUB parking lot. To the right of the main entrance is an automatic door. The door swings open outwards.

There are several elevators in the building. The elevator in the foyer has no tactile control panels. The floors approached are announced.

There are accessible ssanitary facilities on all floors.

Noise-reduced workspaces can be booked independently in the room booking system.

Information on accessibility at the decentralized locations

To prepare for your visit to the decentralized locations, you will find all the information you need on the home pages of the branch libraries:

The following supporting technology can be borrowed from the Library of Things:

  • Digital magnifying glass from Humanware
  • Camera with read-aloud function from OrCam

Orientation in the house

  • Tactile site plans are available from the security staff in the foyer
  • We offer the blindFind system for additional orientation. You will need the blindFind app for this, which is available free of charge in the usual stores.

If you would like an introduction to blindFind or need advice on using the supporting technology, please arrange a Knowledge Bar appointment.

Offers in plain and (German) sign language

Services in plain and (German) sign language

You can find all the important information about the SLUB in our easy-to-read section (in German). In printed form, you can obtain the SLUBKompaKt booklet in easy-to-understand language at the service desk (in  German).

In addition, the SLUB started buying books in easy language in 2024. In order to make these books easily accessible, the SLUB has set up an extra location in the Central Library. Based on the coordination office alfa-sachsen.de, we have labeled the collection with the abbreviation ALFA. This special location contains bestsellers, literary classics and award-winning non-fiction books that have been translated into simple and easy-to-understand German. The target group is anyone learning German as a foreign language, but also people who want to improve their reading skills as adults.

These are our books in plain language.

Here you will find the shelf with books in plain language.

If you need help with borrowing or researching, we can also provide easy-to-understand advice. Book a Knowledge Bar appointment for this.

Information in German sign language

We have a page with information in sign language. Guided tours in sign language are offered by our colleague Michaela Starke.

Provisioning service

If you have limited mobility, we will help you to get your materials. Please send us an e-mail with the titles you need and we will try to make them available for you at the service desk or on the self-collection shelf as soon as possible.
