Open Access Funding

Open Access Funding for Corresponding Authors of the TU Dresden

You publish your research articles in open access and we pay the publication fees (article processing charges/APCs).

The SLUB Dresden manages the DFG-funded publication fund of the TU Dresden and a number of transformative agreements with various publishers. The aim is to enable TU Dresden researchers to publish in open access journals with as few barriers as possible.

Here you can find a list of these publishers and the corresponding conditions for open access publication:

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Members of the TU Dresden receive a 15% discount on article processing charges in the open access journal ScienceAdvances from the publisher AAAS. This discount is available to all TU Dresden authors, regardless of funding. Via the publication fund, the APCs of the journal ScienceAdvances can be negotiated to an eligible amount of less than 2,000 EUR gross.

An application for the assumption of costs is required. Click here to be taken to the application form.

American Institute of Physics (AIP Journals)

The SLUB Dresden participates in the Publish & Read contract through the TIB National Consortium with the publisher AIP Publishing. This allows TU Dresden correspondent authors in the field of physics and related subjects to publish open access in hybrid journals.

The contract with the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and associated member societies includes the following journals:

  • Acoustical Society of America (ASA)
  • American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT)
  • Science and Technology Society (AVS)

Corresponding authors of the TU Dresden can publish original research articles, review articles, proceedings and letters in these hybrid journals.

With this contract, we can fund a limited number of publications per year. Therefore, an application for the assumption of costs is necessary. Click here to be taken to the application form.

Cambridge University Press

This Read & Publish contract with a term of three years (2019 to 2021) offers the following advantages:

  • Permanent access and usage rights to the respective title portfolio acquired (total package of 390 titles).
  • Corresponding authors of the TU Dresden have the opportunity to publish under a CC-BY licence open access in 283 hybrid journals free-of-charge and without the need to apply for the assumption of costs.
  • Article processing charges (APCs) for submissions to fully open access journals of the publisher can be covered on request via the publication fund. Click here to be taken to the application form.
  • Co-authors have the opportunity to publish their paper in green open access directly after publication in the publisher's version on their personal page and after a 12-month embargo period on the institutional repository Qucosa.

To do this, the author must complete the form provided by Cambridge University Press in the submission process. If the publication is accepted, the corresponding author will receive a message from the service provider Rightslink about the article-processing charges (APCs).

On the Rightslink page, the TU Dresden must be selected as the institution under "Affiliation discount" after logging in; this will set the publication fee to zero on the system side. Please refer to the following publisher information for further information: OA agreement for German authors

Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics (SCOAP3)

SCOAP3 is an international collaborative project that has transformed key journals in the field of high-energy physics (HEP) into open access journals. Instead of funding via article processing charges, the project partners provide the publishers with a fixed sum that covers all costs incurred.

In addition to this, TU Dresden scientists and scholars can also publish their works for free via open access in other journals that only contain a fraction of articles from the HEP category. In these cases, submitted manuscripts must have already been published on arXiv in the main category HEP (see the corresponding notes on the SCOAP3 website).

  • TU Dresden affiliation: submitting author or corresponding author must be a member of the TU Dresden.
  • DOAJ indexing: submission only in quality-assured fully open access journals. Eligible are publications in journals indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Submissions in hybrid or questionable journals cannot be funded. However, funding of submissions in hybrid journals is partly possible via open access transformative models (see list above). Funding of open access monographs is possible upon request.
  • Third-party funding: no alternative funding of article processing charges possible.
  • Timing: Submission by the publisher required no later than one week after fund application approval.
  • Maximum funding amount: article processing charges max. 2,000 EUR gross (1,680 EUR net). We have made general discount agreements with some publishers (see list above). However, we will also effectively support you in individual price negotiations with publishers.

Application Processing Process

If you wish to submit an application for the assumption of costs, please proceed as follows:

  • Submit the application via the electronic application form. Please submit the application just before submitting your work for publication (highest chances of success in negotiating discounts). After receiving our funding confirmation, you will then have one week to submit your manuscript. However, it is also possible to apply for funding after submitting your work for publication.
  • If you meet the eligibility requirements, we will reserve a grant for you and your article processing charges.
  • Applications will be evaluated in the order in which they are received. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that all applications will be successful.
  • You provide the publisher with the correct invoice address and following extra information: "Open Access Funding by the Publication Fund of the TU Dresden."
