Internship

We offer a limited number of internships each year for compulsory internships within the framework of training or studies as well as for volunteers or trainees from other libraries. The prerequisite for an internship at the SLUB is that you are insured elsewhere. The duration of an internship can be between two weeks and three months. Unfortunately, we cannot pay an internship allowance.

Internships in the Department of Use and Information

We offer you an insight into the modern service area of the SLUB Dresden and the opportunity to advance various projects in a conceptual and/or implementing capacity. The projects are located - depending on demand - in the working areas: Usage research (e.g. user interviews), library pedagogy (e.g. audio guides), service marketing (e.g. creating clips), library of things, citizen science and research communication.

Internships within the framework of library training

You can complete an internship at the SLUB as part of your library training. We offer a diverse insight into a wide range of library topics such as collection development, data management, digitisation, open science and services related to academic research, research, writing and publishing. When applying, you can indicate the topics you would like to focus on, which we will take into account as far as possible.

Internships in the collections departments

Students can complete an internship in the Department of Manuscripts, Early Prints and Regional Studies. Here you will gain an insight into a collection department with extensive and valuable old holdings of manuscripts, prints and graphics and all areas of activity, which also include regular exhibitions and digital offerings.

The Department of Music and AV Media offers insights into its extensive collection areas via internships, which include musical sources of the 16th-21st centuries, music-related ephemera and AV material. In addition, the various activities and initiatives of the department to make musical sources digitally available and usable for music practice and scholarship can be learned about via internships.

The Deutsche Fotothek offers internships in the area of its extensive archive holdings.

Compulsory internships in the administration department

You can preferably complete the compulsory internship practical module cross-sectional administration (budget, personnel, information technology) in the study programme General Administration at the HSF Meißen in the department of administration of the SLUB during the summer semester and gain important practical professional experience in the course of this. We offer you an insight into the processes of the areas of budget/purchasing and personnel as well as the transformation process of digital administration.

Praktika in der Restaurierung und Buchbinderei

Praktika unterstützen die berufsausbildende Qualifizierung in der Bestandserhaltung (Schwerpunktsetzung Papier- und Buchrestaurierung) und auf technischem Gebiet.

Internships in the Information Technology Department

We offer internships on various topics:

  • System administration (Ansible, CheckMK, ...)
  • Data management (Python)
  • Front-end development (TYPO3, PHP, JavaScript)

If you are interested, please contact us with your ideas and skills. And we will see if we currently have a suitable task. We prefer internships > 8 weeks. Please also indicate if an internship should last longer than 3 months.

Internships for pupils

Unfortunately, there are no internship opportunities at the moment.
