Central Reading Room
With 200 workplaces, the central reading room constitutes the centerpiece of the Central Library. If you are looking for especially quiet zones, feel free to proceed to our laptop free areas.
The collections are located in the racks and are freely accessible. In the room, two circular stairs lead to the racks of the upper gallery. The doorways to the central reading room are located on level -2.
The collections in the central reading room are arranged according to the Regensburg Classification Scheme, RVK):
- Reading room reference section
e.g. general reference works, lexicons and encyclopedias; RVK class F - Classical Philology; Byzantine Studies; Middle Latin and Modern Greek Philology; Modern Latin.
- Reading room gallery
RVK classes AA to AE e.g. bibliographies, biographical reference works etc.
Another reading room on level -2 offers 50 places in a quiet atmosphere. This reading room is accessible during the opening hours of the central library.
Special Collections Reading Room
Especially valuable and fragile works of our collections are handed out in the Special Collections Reading Room on level -1. The use of maps is possible in the map reading room on level -2 of the central library.
