The Central Library is open from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. In order to use the local services, please book a appointment online.
All branch libraries offer a minimal contact lending service as well. You do not need to book a timeslot to visit them. The borrowing and returning of items can be done at any point during their limited opening hours.

Do you have a valid SLUB card?
Are you already registered as a SLUB user and have a valid SLUB card? Then you can start right away. If you still need a SLUB card, please first register online using our contact form. After successfully registering and receiving your login information, you will be able to directly access our digital services. You can pick up your SLUBCard, which you will need to check out your ordered items, from the Central Library.
Book a timeslot online if you want borrow literature from the Central Library
If you would like to borrow items from the Central Library, please book a timeslot online in advance. If you have ordered items from the stacks, your literature will be ready for collection no later than 24 hours after you have placed your order and will be located on the self-service shelves in the Central Library of the SLUB. You will receive a notification in your user account as soon as your literature is ready for collection. After receiving this notification, please book a time slot for collection online. A timeslot needs to be booked even if the desired items are in the open access areas or the textbook collection. An appointment is not required for the borrowing and returning of items in the branch libraries.

Please keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres from other users and staff members while inside the library. The following hygiene measures must be observed: a facemask needs to be worn and you must disinfect your hands at the provided dispensers.. In order to ensure the best possible health and safety conditions for everyone, we are currently only able to provide an online advisory service and users may not stay on site to study or consult reference books.
How long will my ordered literature from the stacks remain available for collection on the self-service shelves?
After receiving the notification in your SLUB user account, the ordered literature will remain ready for collection for five working days.
Which loan periods currently apply?
Items which were borrowed before the closure of the SLUB will no longer be automatically renewed after 25.05.2020. The regular loan period of four weeks (two weeks for audio-visual media) now apply. As long as borrowed items are not on hold, you can renew them online in your user account. If items are not brought back or renewed on time, a late fee will be charged.
How can I return items?
Items can be returned during opening hours without an appointment. The self check- in terminals in the Central Library of the SLUB will be accessible via a separate door, which is located directly next to the main entrance. Items that cannot be returned via the self check-in terminals can be left on the book trolleys provided. You can also send items back by post (Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB), Zellescher Weg 18, z. Hd. Ortsleihe, 01069 Dresden).
Can I copy and scan on site?
A multifunction printer will be available. You will need a copy card from Acribit to use it.
How can I submit compulsory literature?
It is still possible to submit compulsory literature in accordance with the Saxon Press Act (Sächsisches Pressegesetz). You can send them to us by post. HOW CAN I CURRENTLY PAY FOR ANY LATE FEES?
Late fees were suspended during the closure. Now that all locations have reopened, we will start recharging late fees for items not returned on time on 02.06.2020.
BRANCH LIBRARIES WITH LIMITED OPENING HOURS
Following in the steps of the Central Library, all branch libraries are now offering restricted public access to their facilities under certain conditions.

In addition to this, the Special Collections Reading Room was reopened on 25.05.2020. Please note that only two people are allowed to stay in this room at the same time. Because of this, it is not yet possible to order these items from the catalogue. Please order your desired items with at least two working days’ notice using our contact form at www.slubdd.de/kontakt or by phone at 0351 4677-514. We will then arrange an individual appointment with you within the opening hours.

All of the SLUB’s digital services are available as usual. In addition to electronic publications, numerous databases are accessible to all SLUB users worldwide, regardless of location.
Expanded digital services | additional options for full-text searches
In order to make researching easier during the coronavirus crisis, some publishers and database providers have made their services more accessible (you can find an overview here). In order to give non-TU members access to our e-resources as well, ten PC workstations have been set up as “SLUB Data Filling Stations” (SLUB-Datentankstelle) and will be available for use in the Central Library from 13.5.2020. Our Digital Collections, sachsen.digital and the Landeskundeportal Saxorum also offer additional research opportunities, not to mention these useful services and tools for researching freely available full-text versions ("open access research").
