Materials Service

In order to support public libraries in rural areas, the Saxon State Office provides them with free supplementary collections. Supplementary library

Public libraries in Saxony have the opportunity to borrow various media free of charge from the supplementary library of the Saxon State Office for Libraries. These are already prepared for lending. The borrowing library can pass the media on to users under its own conditions. For this purpose, the title data for the loan period is imported into the respective local library system where possible.

The selection of media is usually carried out by the staff of the respective library - please make an appointment with us. It is also possible for us to compile your loan consignment on request.

Specialised library

Lifelong learning is also essential for library staff. Up-to-date specialist books make an important contribution to this. That is why you will find a large selection of specialist library literature in the State Office. The collection includes literature and journals on librarianship, media skills and reading promotion, cultural policy and other relevant topics.

MakerBoxes for libraries

Do you already have a makerspace in your library? Makerspaces are creative workshops. They invite their users to take part in craft, technical or artistic activities and at the same time provide them with all the facilities they need to realise their ideas on site. In this way, makerspaces support the transformation of libraries into places to spend time, communicate and meet. The State Office would like to promote this development and provides various MakerBoxes for borrowing.

Media station for the SAVE state program in the Saxon State Office for Libraries

A media station in the Saxon State Office for Libraries is currently showing excerpts from the state's SAVE program. SAVE - Safeguarding the Audio-Visual Heritage in Saxony - is a programme to preserve, digitize and make available a selection of historical film, video and sound recordings from Saxony. As part of the state program, the SLUB works together with the Saxony Film Association. The digitized media are currently made publicly accessible in the SLUB's online media library.

The media station also makes it possible to show digitized material in public spaces, especially where the recordings were made. In this way, the SAVE state program can be made better known and, ideally, further sources can be acquired.
The station will be made available to local authorities (libraries, museums, archives, etc.) for loan and videos from the respective region will be shown.

Are you interested in the SAVE media station? Then please contact us or get in touch directly via SAVE.

Cooperation project "lesen – verstehen - handeln" with the Saxon State Centre for Political Education (SLpB)

As part of the cooperation project ""lesen – verstehen - handeln" (read - understand - act), the Saxon State Centre for Political Education provides selected materials free of charge in Saxon public libraries.

The aim is to provide library users with the opportunity to obtain current publications on current affairs beyond the library collection by taking them home.

Accessible literature

The Chance Inclusion initiative of the German Center for Accessible Reading (dzb lesen) aims to expand the range of entertainment, non-fiction and specialist literature available in public libraries for people with visual impairments. Partner libraries can offer their users accessible materials to order. They are then delivered quickly and postage-free to the person's home via dzb lesen. Once the loan period has expired, the materials can simply be returned to the initiative.

Other partner libraries are very welcome. At the beginning of the cooperation, employees receive appropriate training. The information portal for partner libraries provides all the necessary information in a compact format. You will also find all training dates as well as text modules and image material for downloading to promote the new offer on your own website. Are you interested? Then simply get in touch with us!

New: Interlibrary loan service for libraries
The project has expanded its services to include an interlibrary loan option for libraries. Libraries can now order all materials from dzb lesen directly via the online catalogue after registering. The service is only available to the Chance Inklusion target group, i.e. people with a visual impairment or reading disability (e.g. dyslexics). Details on interlibrary loans and how to register for this service can be found on the "Chance Inclusion - Library Initiative" project page (in German).
