Subject Matter and Objectives of the Emergency Agreement

Dresden has unique collections in archives, libraries and museums. The evidence of art, culture and science has been collected over centuries. Many of them are of inestimable value and of importance to mankind as a whole.
Experts take care of their protection and preservation. Especially in emergencies (endangerment or damage to cultural assets due to fire, water, storms, technical defects and other unforeseeable events), the right knowledge and action is essential.

For this reason, thirteen institutions have joined forces to form an emergency association of their archives, libraries and museums located in Dresden, while maintaining their respective institutional and content-related independence. They are thus declaring their willingness to pool their human and material resources in the event of an emergency and to provide mutual support for the tasks required to protect cultural assets.

Emergency prevention will be a key task. To this end, the archives, libraries and museums cooperate with each other and with the authorities responsible for the protection of cultural property, in particular with the Dresden fire department.

The experts from the individual institutions share their knowledge on emergency prevention and emergency management and can be contacted by each other.
