Collections

Chronicles and genealogical books, bequests and travelogues, publications on regional and local history: the collections of the SLUB Dresden on Saxon regional studies offer you numerous printed and unprinted sources. Many of them are digitally accessible and are merged online with the holdings of other Saxon institutions. We present some of these collections here.

Saxonica: insights into the history of Saxony

The Saxonica collection contains the central works on Saxon history and regional studies from the SLUB's historical holdings. These have been systematically digitized since the end of the 2000s. Today, this collection comprises around 35,000 titles in more than 54,000 volumes - making it the most extensive single collection in the SLUB's digital collections.

Lusatica

Lusatica refers to publications that originate from Lusatia or deal with the region between Saxony, Brandenburg-Prussia, Silesia/Poland and Bohemia/Czech Republic. Such works are kept at the Oberlausitzische Bibliothek der Wissenschaften in Görlitz and the Sorbisches Institut/Serbski institut in Bautzen, for example, but also at the SLUB. The digitally accessible collection is constantly being expanded and offers you a variety of insights into the history of the region and the cultural heritage of the Slavic-speaking minority of the Sorbs in Germany.

Historical newspapers

Historical daily newspapers from Saxony combine regional news with the contemporary view of events in the world. Some of them were non-partisan, while others were published by parties and political interest groups. In the digitized collection you will find a representative cross-section of the Saxon press landscape from the 18th century to 1945 from the holdings of the SLUB and other Saxon institutions.

Historical letterheads of Saxon companies

Designed by graphic art studios and specialized draughtsmen, company letterheads developed from around 1900 onwards into veritable small works of art with illustrations of the factory premises, products or exhibition medals won. Today, they represent an important visual and historical source of corporate, architectural and cultural history. They also provide valuable insights into industrial and economic history, social history and even art history. Based on the collections of the Sächsisches Wirtschaftsarchiv e. V. and the Chemnitz Industrial Museum, we already present more than 6,100 digitized company letterheads.
