Collection Gallery The Island by Barbara Siebeck

In 1968, Barbara McBride, who grew up in Worpswede, opened the gallery ‘die Insel’ in Starnberg, where she showed David Hockney, Ed Kienholz and Roland Topor, among others. It was also here that she met her future second husband Wolfram Siebeck. At the end of the 1970s, the gallery moved to Munich and closed in 1983.

The collection contains documents relating to Barbara Siebeck's work in her gallery in Munich and Starnberg from 1968 to 1983, including the Edward Kienholz and David Hockney exhibitions, numerous photographs, Polaroids, posters, leaflets and letters.

While Barbara Siebeck was working at the "Insel", Wolfram Siebeck wrote his "Inselbriefe" - his first collections of recipes, which he sent to acquaintances. These can also be found in the SLUB collection.
