100 years of film culture between Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains

From 21 January to the end of March 2025, the façade of Chemnitz City Hall became a stage for the region's eventful history. Under the title ‘100 Years of Film Culture between Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains,’ an extraordinary film screening presented historical treasures from the archives of the state programme ‘SAVE – Preserving the Audiovisual Heritage in Saxony’ at the Chemnitz City Hall.

A compilation of historical regional film material will be projected, which has been digitized since 2018 as part of SAVE in cooperation with the Saxon Film Association and the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) and various programme partners. These films, created by semi-professional filmmakers and amateurs over decades, take an unbiased look at past everyday culture, traditions, filmmaking and the realities of life in this year's European Capital of Culture and the neighboring Capital of Culture region. They therefore fit in perfectly with the European Capital of Culture motto "C the Unseen", as they make long-hidden images and stories from the region visible again.

The projection is a cooperation between SAVE and Stadthalle Chemnitz/ C³ Chemnitzer Veranstaltungszentren GmbH, it was supported with funds from the "EUJA Initiative Projects for the European Capital of Culture Year!" funding program. As part of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
