The focus of the collection at the SLUB is on audiovisual Saxonica. Saxony's audiovisual heritage
In the SLUB's audiovisual collection you will find unique recordings of music performances as well as acquisitions from publishers in the fields of music and film/video. Since 2014, deposit copies of audiovisual media published and released in Saxony have been collected in the media library.
Since the early 20th century, a significant treasure trove of documentary evidence and short film experiments has been created in Saxony. They tell of outstanding events as well as of normality, of lost buildings and customs as well as of intangible cultural assets worthy of preservation. A large number of amateur films and self-edited records provide insights into private spheres of life. The SLUB collection also includes diverse artistic works that reflect the interior of Saxon society in its permanent transition - be it painted and scratched experimental films by Christine Schlegel, Christian Borchert's found-footage collage or essayistic and performative positions by Steffen Reck.
In order to preserve this film, video and sound heritage and make it visible, the SAVE - Safeguarding Audio-Visual Heritage in Saxony coordination office began its work at the SLUB in April 2019. The state project supports Saxon source owners of historical film, video and sound media in the digitization, digital preservation and digital presentation of valuable research documents in image and sound.
