Collections Art
As a focal library for contemporary and contemporary art as well as photography, SLUB Dresden also collects source material in the subject areas of art and photography. In the graphic arts and artists' book collection, original graphic artists' books and magazines are collected. In addition, we can also call a small collection of paintings our own, in which primarily portraits of former library directors can be found.
In our preliminary and posthumous estates you will find numerous documents such as correspondence, manuscripts and diaries of artists, photographers and cultural workers. We make these collections accessible to research and welcome further donations whose authors and/or contents are considered historically and scientifically relevant to Saxony's cultural heritage.
How to use our offer
All preliminary and posthumous bequests as well as the holdings of the graphic arts and artists' book collection are listed in our catalogue and can be ordered there for presentation in the Collections Reading Room. In a few, justified exceptional cases, we give first priority to the protection of holdings. These media can then not be made available for reasons of conservation or only in cases of proven and indispensable scholarly need. The painting collection is not open to the public. However, individual paintings hang in the library's usage area.
