DESCRIPTION:This workshop is part of a series on subject specific research
data repositories with relevance to the five schools ofthe TU Dresden.\n\
nWith open science becoming a standard practice in research, university a
nd research libraries are increasingly tasked with providing services to
support the FAIR publication of research data. Many German and European r
esearch grants require a mandatory strategy for publishing research data
in their application forms. Alongside education on good research data man
agement (RDM) practices, selecting a suitable repository is an important
step in this process.\n\nThis workshop provides an opportunity to learn a
bout the functionality of a reputable, open repository hosted by the Alfr
ed Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Center for Polar and Marine Research (AWI
) and the Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen
(MARUM). PANGAEA is operated as an Open Access library aimed at archiving
, publishing and distributing georeferenced data from earth system resear
ch. PANGAEA is certified with the CoreTrustSeal.\n\nAdditional to the tar
get audience of researchers, the workshop might give open science educato
rs another tool in their toolbox to offer RDM services to researchers.\n
During a hands-on session, participants will input a provided dataset int
o the metadata fields, with the chance to ask questions and discuss their
experiences. This highlights potential challenges during metadata input
and equips fellow educators to anticipate user questions.\n\nDescriptive
metadata is crucial for the findability of research data, and continued a
ccess is ensured by using an appropriate repository. Reusability increase
s with comprehensive documentation and meaningful context information for
any dataset. In addition to an introduction to core RDM principles and t
he reasons and benefits of publishing research data, there will be intera
ctive elements to further awareness of the importance of metadata and goo
 d documentation practices.
