Comprehensible handling of research data as a central component of good scientific practice - Day 2 (Workshop in English)

Open Science / Publishing

Data is an essential component of research and therefore invaluable for researchers. Whether small samples or “big data” - the systematic and comprehensible handling of research data is a central component of good scientific practice. Systematic research data management offers support for daily research practice in the fulfilment of the good scientific practice (GSP) and thus enables the traceability, reproducibility and reusability of scientific research. In the course you can try out some best practices.

Day 2: Describing research data in a comprehensible way: Metadata, taxonomies and documentation: In order to fulfil the requirements of good scientific practice, not only research data in the narrower sense should be taken into account. Important metadata and the documentation of the research enrich the research data by describing the context in which the data was created in more detail. The second part of the workshop therefore offers an in-depth look at the topic of data documentation and metadata. A playful exercise will be used to teach various documentation options. Procedures will be presented that will enable you to provide your research data with metadata, metadata standards and standardised descriptions, which will then be discussed with regard to your own research.
