Ordering and Borrowing

Media for Lendingto top

Most library media can be borrowed for at-home use.

Media in the open access areas can be taken from the shelves. Books with a yellow call number label may be borrowed. Books with a red call number label or red dot above the call number label are non-borrowable and may only be used within the library building. Other non-borrowable media which may only be used within the library are:

  • Unbound works, newspapers and journals,
  • Loose leaf materials,
  • Microforms,
  • Books in course reserved reading shelves.

Certain media may also be excluded from lending because of their size, weight or due to their conservation status.

Media from the closed stack areas can be requested directly from the SLUB catalog. Requested items will be provided after a short time in the self pick-up area or at the circulation desk.

You can check out your media at the self-service terminals during the opening hours of the Central Library and the Departmental Library DrePunct or at the circulation desk during the service period.

Loan Periodsto top

The loan period for books is usually 28 calendar days, for audio and video media 14 calendar days. Special conditions apply for employees of Dresden University of Technology.

Reserving Checked-out Mediato top

Should you desire media that are currently on loan, you can reserve them in SLUB catalog. Free delivery of the medium to one of our libraries is part of our service.

Notifications

Once your desired medium is returned, you will receive an e-mail or letter. You can then pick your medium within the next five opening days.

Cancellation of Reservations

If you cease to be interested in a medium before the pick-up notification arrives, you can cancel your reservation at any time in your user account.

Ordering Digital Copiesto top

TU Delivery Service

Employees of Dresden University of Technology (TU) can order electronic copies of journal articles or partial copies of books via our TU Delivery Service.

Depending on your user status you will be presented with the TU Delivery Service option in the SLUB catalog after you have logged in to your user account.

eBooks on Demand

Titles from the SLUB catalog that were published between 1500 and 1900 can be ordered for digitization via our service eBooks on Demand (EOD). By paying for the digitization, you take care that your title will be freely available on the Internet in the future. Additionally, you can order the digital facsimile at a reasonable price via Amazon.

Delivery From Other Libraries

If the SLUB Dresden or other libraries in Dresden do not hold a copy of your desired book or article, you can order it through Inter-Library Loan or the document delivery service subito from other libraries.

Acquisition Requests

We encourage you to place an acquisition request to the responsible subject librarian if a desired title is not available at the SLUB Dresden, for example, if an inter-library loan is not possible, or if the title is permanently out on loan.
