We will help you find information and literature in catalogues and subject databases, advise you when choosing online media, and, when necessary, even carry out your research for you when requested.

Information Provided Free of Chargeto top

Simple information inquiries are carried out free of charge, i.e., research in various reference sources, and in the SLUB catalogues (e.g. information regarding collections, finding articles and other full-text documents, completing bibliographic quotes or short biographical data).

Ask us for a personal consultation! We, the Information Service staff, will be glad to help you at any of our information desks.

We are available to answer your questions via telephone from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00am and 8:00pm. Simply call (0351) 4677 390.

For conducting your research on your own, please consult the SLUB catalogue, which includes various online resources that the library has licensed to provide.

Research Services Subject to Chargeto top

To assist you with more extensive research needs dealing with a certain topic, we can suggest appropriate research strategies and/or carry out research for you in our own and in foreign library catalogues, as well as in special subject databases or in the Internet.

We offer you:

• Bibliographies for your topic
• Verification of quotes, dates, facts, and norms

We carry out, for example:

• Search in Saxon newspapers and journals
• Locate information from Dresden address books
• Search for texts to be digitalized
• Research in older and special collections that are not available in digital form

We cannot provide legal or medical advice or information, such as market surveys regarding your stocks. We can send reproductions of articles, essays, chapters of books, etc. to your postal address. Restrictions due to conservational concerns or copyright laws may apply.

Your Research Requestto top

We can only accept written requests for research services. Please use the "Ask for Information" form, or send us your request via fax or post to the SLUB Dresden / Abteilung Benutzung und Information (Reference Department). Please be sure to include your full name and postal address.

After receiving your request, we will contact you. We strive to answer all requests within 7 days of receipt. Please keep in mind that more complex research requests may take more time to complete.

Compilations of literature for coursework, theses, dissertations, etc. cannot be carried out by library staff, because finding appropriate literature on the topic is an essential part of the work to be evaluated, and must therefore be carried out by the students themselves.

Fees for Research Servicesto top

Separate charges for reproductions apply. Fees charged for copies, enlargements, or photos can be found in this Digitization Request Form (PDF, German). Fees for using external services (e.g. for the use of special databases) will be charged as well. You will be billed for the time spent on your research request, regardless of whether the information or literature you requested was able to found or not.

How Will I Receive the Research Results?to top

You will be notified when we have completed your research request. The results of our research will be sent to you via e-mail or post.

It is up to you (i.e., the user requesting the research) to adhere to copyright law guidelines.
