Special Collections Reading Room

The special collections reading room is located in the central library, floor -1. There you receive all literature published before 1850 as well as manuscripts, music sources and old music prints, rare prints (Rara in general, German original editions), volumes of the graphic and children's book collections, of the book bindings collection and stenographic collection (manuscripts, files, rare prints).

Online or with library order form ordered materials are ready for use in the reading room for five opening days. This period can be extended by phone.

When Do You Receive Your Orders?to top

  • Orders until 13:00: available from 14:00 (except for Saturday)
  • Orders after 13:00: available the next opening day
  • Orders Friday after 13:00: availabe Monday from 10:00 

Very precious material cannot be used on Saturdays.

What Do You Need?to top

For the use of material of the manuscript collection and of the music department as well as for manuscripts, files, rare and old prints of the stenographic collection a registration and order in writing or by phone is necessary at least one day ahead. An application demonstrating legitimate personal or research-related need has to be filled out and the user card has to be presented.
