Beside valuable historical maps (e. g. nach Ptolemäus, von Münster, Ortelius, Mercator, Gerard de Jode und Blaeu) the map collection includes particularly maps of Saxony and topographical maps of Germany and Europe. It also contains numerous local views from the 17th to the 19th century.
Within the past 10 years the stock grew by almost 40.000 sheets. In 2009 it contained approximately 172.255 maps and views: mainly printed and partially hand-drawn sheets.
00 of the most important cartographical sources with an emphasis on history and regional studies of Saxony, which were digitized with high resolution, are available in the map forum.
