The stock is composed as follows:
- 19,650 sheets published up to and including in 1800,
- 41,600 sheets published between 1801 and 1945, and
- 43,800 sheets published after 1945.
Use
Other services include:
- to provide competent advice for the use of maps,
- to provide advice on issues of reproduction or printing,
- to produce copies of reproductions through the department of reproduction,
- to make quality shots of or to digitise maps by the photographic library department by means of an Ektachrom unit, and
- to sell digitised maps on CD-ROM disks through the photographic library department.
Charges
The use of maps and views in the Map Collection is basically free of charge. Similarly, for written and oral information and the provision of maps and views on the making of reproductions of no fees. Reprographic services are chargeable. The cost is from the scale of fees for details.

- Alphabetic catalogue (by map titles or authors),
- Classified catalogue (by geographic arrangement), and
- Catalogue of cartographers, engravers or publishers for old stock items.

History
The map collection of the Saxon State Library - State and University Library in Dresden, in its beginnings to Elector August (1526 - 1586, reg. 1553 to 1586), who since 1556 in addition to books and woodblock prints, etchings and drawings for his personal use collected. This collection includes maps of the oldest institutions of its kind in Germany.
Considering the trend over the period of almost 450 years, so despite stagnation, crises and wars of the collective contract again been revived. In the past 10 years, the inventory by nearly 40,000 individual leaves increased. It included the end of 2008, about 170,192 maps and views.
