Deutsche Fotothek

With over 4 million images available, the Deutsche Fotothek (German Photographic Collection) in the SLUB Dresden is truly a universal archive for art and cultural history, with an emphasis on the history of art, architecture and music, Saxon regional history and the history of technology.

Our image database provides users with unrestricted access to about 1.8 million researchable online images from our collections, as well as from numerous partner institutions.

A central task for the Deutsche Fotothek is the retroconversion of our extensive systematic and topographic catalogues, as well as publishing the most important photographers’ estates and archival collections in the Internet. This work is generally carried out on a project basis, with funding from third parties (sponsors) or in-house initiatives.

With its focus on documenting, collecting and indexing, the Deutsche Fotothek aims to provide—in cooperation with partners—the research and teaching community, press and publishing industries, and all interested parties with a comprehensive and efficiently presented collection of visual imagery.
