Terms of Use for Digital Collections

The Digital collections of the SLUB, including the image database of the Deutsche Fotothek, are provided free of charge for non-commercial use. The digital objects are freely accessible and can be downloaded in high quality for personal or academic purposes.

Any form of commercial use (including electronic forms) shall be subject to charge and requires the prior written consent of the rights holder; subject to the right to prohibit use in each individual case. This shall also be applicable to inclusion in commercial databases. The respective rights holder is shown in the title data of the media offered.

Images and data may be used free of charge for academic and private purposes provided that the source is acknowledged completely (refer below). Certain exceptions may prevail in the case of digital media from partner institutions.

Use of singular images on non-commercial websites shall be permitted under proviso that the source is acknowledged completely (refer below). Please send us the link at the relevant spot on your website via e-mail for our information. The use of interrelated partial components of digital collections on non-commercial websites requires separate approval by the rights holder.

Use of individual images in academic publications with an edition of less than 1,000 copies shall also be free of charge. Please send us a specimen copy of the publication. We reserve the right to prohibit such use in individual cases.

Images, metadata and other information from the digital collections may not be changed, licensed in favour of any third party, or sold.

By downloading images or data, you accept these terms of use. This includes the user’s liability for compliance with these provisions, respectively in the event of any kind of improper use.

The digitised media in the downloadable quality are licensed under the  Creative Commons Licence BY-NC-ND 3.0.

High quality reproductions in different formats and resolutions can be ordered (order form), in this case the General Terms and Conditions of Business of the Deutsche Fotothek apply. Fees shall be raised in accordance with the Library Fees and Charges. Please send us a specimen copy.

The digitised materials made available in a restricted quality by Wikimedia Commons are exempt from the obligation to pay charges. Such materials shall be subject to the provisions set forth under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 3.0 Germany licensing model.

Digitised documents produced on demand are added to the digital collections of the SLUB and are therewith available to the public and accessible in the long-term.

Additionally, images of works of art and collector’s items have to be annotated with the location of the original, so that no doubt can arise with regard to the categorisation of the image and the documentary proof of origin. Online publications have to be provided with an additional link to the respective data record. This permalink, e.g. http://www.deutschefotothek.de/obj32024072.html, is to be found in the respective data record.
